Early Head Start is a free program for low-income families with pregnant women, infants, and toddlers (ages 0-3).
ABOUT EARLY HEAD START
A child's brain is developing the way a child learns, moves and interacts socially for the rest of their lives during their first three years of life. During those first three years, a parent's interaction with their child can have lasting effects. Early Head Start is focused on giving parents the opportunity to learn ways to stimulate thinking, motor and social skills. Through education and community collaboration, Early Head Start promotes healthy prenatal outcomes, school readiness, enhances children's physical, social emotional and cognitive development, and helps parents meet their own goals, including that of economic independence.
Early Head Start offers an intensive, comprehensive, and flexible child development program that is designed to reinforce and respond to the unique strengths and needs of each individual child and family. Pregnant women, toddlers and infants receive services through weekly home visits or in a collaborative partnership in a community child care setting.
"All children from birth to age three need early child development experiences that honor their unique characteristics and provide love, warmth, and positive learning experiences; and all families need encouragement and support from their community so they can achieve their own goals and provide a safe and nurturing environment for their very young children." ~Advisory Committee, September 1994 |
