Who is DDI VANTAGE and what is early intervention?

DDI VANTAGE, Inc. is a private, non-profit agency that provides a variety of child, adult, and family services through its Early Intervention Program, Early Head Start Program, and Supported Employment Program. Funding for these programs is provided primarily through contracts with the Utah State Department of Health, Baby Watch Early Intervention Program; Department of Human Services, Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD); Utah State Office of Rehabilitation; and the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families.

Specifically, the DDI VANTAGE Early Intervention Program provides support to infants and children under three years of age who have developmental delays or disabilities and their families through a wide range of available services tailored to meet their individual needs. Early intervention aims to reduce the need for long-term intervention or support throughout the child’s school years by eliminating or moderating the effects of the delays or disabilities as early as possible.

Where do early intervention services take place?

Your child is best served in the natural environment in which (s)he typically spends each day.  This may include the home, at pre-school or day care, at the play ground, or at Grandma's.  Based upon the needs of the child and family, t he entire process from evaluation through transition may be provided in the natural environments.

How do I know if my child qualifies for early intervention services?

Children develop differently, some more quickly than others.  There are, however, ways to tell if a child's development is slower than it should be.  If you have any concern about your child's development, you can contact the DDI VANTAGE  Early Intervention Program for a NO COST evaluation.  Qualified personnel will speak with you, evaluate your child's development, and tell you whether or not your child may qualify for our program.  A child automatically qualifies if (s)he is under three years of age and has a medically-diagnosed condition or disability such as Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, or Spina Bifida.  The child may also qualify if his development is determined to be delayed by utilizing a standardized evaluation in at least one of the following areas of development:

  • Gross Motor
  • Fine/Visual Motor
  • Cognitive
  • Receptive Language
  • Expressive Language
  • Social/Emotional
  • Adaptive

What is an IFSP?

If your child qualifies for program services, you will help design an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).  This is a team process and you are a valued member of the team.  The IFSP identifies child and family outcomes, methods and supports.  It also outlines the frequency, intensity, duration and location of services to be delivered.

What about costs?

We will provide a full evaluation of your child's development at NO COST to you.  If your child qualifies for the DDI VANTAGE Early Intervention Program, you may be charged a family fee based on a sliding scale, as mandated by the Utah State Legislature.  The family fee is determined by reviewing individual family circumstances.
